Can you apply an expected refund from a 2020 addendum that has not yet been paid from the IRS? I am owed $2100 from 2020, and want to use that with 2021's amount due.

My addendum from 2020 was received in June, but has not yet been refunded.  When I check the IRS site there is no information regarding when this refund will be processed.  I owe in 2021, and I would like to use this expected refund to pay what I owe in 2021.  Is this possible in Turbo Tax?

Sorry no, you cannot use a 2020 refund to pay for your 2021 taxes.  You can try to wait until your receive your 2020 refund, then go on the IRS website to make your payments.  Beware though, all taxes owed must be paid by April 18th to avoid a penalty & interest.

No, the IRS does not allow you to apply an expected refund to pay the current amount of tax you owe.
