Can someone explain to me, in super-simple language and words, how I transfer data from my 2023 return, which is on my desktop, to my 2024 return? Thanks! Gary

I'm old which may partially explain why I can't figure this out.

Is your 2024 TurboTax software also on your desktop?

If not, someone else will need to help you.

The following applies to a Windows PC, not a Mac.

If so and you installed 2023 and 2024 software into the same files (this is the default), then when you open TurboTax 2024 and click "Start a New Return", it should open a new (2024) return file.

(The following is from my memory, and may not be completely accurate, because I have already done this and can not duplicate your situation exactly.)

It may ask you if you want to import your data from your previous return files, or it may automagically do this.

You can verify if data is imported by looking at the 2024 TurboTax data under

the "Personal Info" tab, and then click the Continue button.

If your personal data (name, address, etc. shows up, it found it from your 2023 file.

If not, it gets more complicated and I suggest you follow up with this question and describe what happened and what you see.

I am intentionally limiting my answer because you asked to keep it simple.

If needed we can provide more info.

If you follow-up, please advise if you are familiar with Windows Explorer and how to use it to find files.
