If you discover that either your direct deposit information or your address was incorrect on your recently filed tax return, you need to call the IRS immediately at the phone number below to alert them of the error(s). Find out what you can do and what to expect.

1-800-829-1040  IRS Individual Accounts Department phone number.

At the prompts, enter 1-2-2-4-1 and that should help you connect to a live person. Be prepared to spend an hour or more on this call, but they will be able to help you and it CAN be resolved in this one telephone call.

If you are able to contact them soon enough, you may be able to have your refund direct deposited into your new account. In other cases, though, your refund will be slightly delayed and you will be sent a paper check refund to the mailing address listed on your return.

The IRS does not have my direct deposit information. What can I do?

In the coming weeks, Treasury plans to develop a web-based portal for individuals to provide their banking information to the IRS online, so that individuals can receive payments immediately as opposed to checks in the mail.

No.   After you file your tax return you cannot change how you want to receive your refund.   The only banking information you can change right now is the banking information to get the monthly advance child tax credit.   You can do that on the IRS Manage Payments site.

But if you are asking to change how to get your tax refund, sorry---you are stuck with whatever you chose when you filed the return.
