TurboTax does not provide any type of written statement concerning the status of tax return completed using the TurboTax software.

Please submit the following to resolve:

·         2016 1040X amended return with filing status corrected for student, or

·         Tax preparer letter clearly stating student filed HOH correctly for the base tax year 2016

·         2016 1040X amended return with filing status corrected for spouse, or

·         Tax preparer letter clearly stating spouse filed HOH correctly for the base tax year 2016

We are also requesting the following documents for the 18/19 FAFSA.

The 18/19 qualifying head of household form submitted did not resolve the filing status discrepancy.

We are requesting: 2016 1040X amended return or tax preparer letter clearly stating they filed Head Of Household correctly for the base 2016 tax year. The FAFSA marital status is (Married as of 02/2012) and the Head of Household status is discrepant based on IRS guidelines. Plus both student and spouse's 2016 head of household returns have the same home address.

In order for a statement to be accepted it needs to come from a professional tax preparer and must be on company letter head. The verbiage must state that you filed head of household correctly for the 2016 tax year. A separate statement from a professional tax preparer would also need to be submitted for your spouse for that year. I'm forwarding this statement to the processing center for review but it will most likely be denied.

The other option is to submit a signed and dated 2016 1040X tax form changing you and your spouse's filing status to a correct status. This form can be accessed on the IRS website [www.irs.gov]www.irs.gov. The same will need to be submitted for the 2017 tax year as both returns were head of household for that year as well.
