Can I Claim My Mom as a Dependent?

Hi guys.. I'm single living with my elderly mom in her house. She's at an advanced age and is considered handicapped. She hasnt worked in decades and receives income from social security/SSI .I have 3 questions:

1) Considering the above can I claim my mom as a dependent to get a bigger tax refund?

2) If I can claim her as a dependent will my any of my future stimulus checks be affected?

3) Is it worth it?

You say you are in HER house-----a house that she owns and pays the expenses for?   Can you say that you pay for over half her support---including the expenses for the home?

What you "get" if you can claim her is a $500 credit for other dependents.   Claiming your mother does not get you stimulus money---you only get stimulus money for a dependent who is 16 or younger.  And claiming her makes her ineligible for a stimulus check since dependents do not get stimulus money.

I read that Biden's next stimulus will include all dependents, so the next one should not affect my mom from getting it. What do you think about this?

I think you ought to wait and see what Congress actually does instead of speculating on what they MIGHT do----and....you should go by the rules for claiming a dependent.   If you go by the rules you should be good.
