Can I change my "dependent" status on my already filed tax return?

How do I change my dependent status on my already filed 2023 tax return?

If you need to change your return you have to Amend it.   Has your return been Accepted? You need to wait for it to be fully processed and you get the first refund. Then you can Amend.

How to Amend the current year

Oh and why do you need to change your status?  Did you claim yourself and now someone else's (like your parents) return is rejecting because they are claiming you?  If you qualify as their dependent they will have to mail their return this year to claim you.

I marked "can be claimed as a dependent" on my return but found out that I didn't live with my parents long enough for this status to apply.  I already filed my return, 2 months ago.  It was accepted.

OK then  you can amend.  But if you were under 19 (or under 24 and a full time student)  you don't have to live with them to be a dependent.  Does a dependent have to live with you?

I am 18 years old and I only lived with my parents for 3 months in the year 2023

did you go away to attend college somewhere?

That is considered "residing".
