Can i amend my 2021 taxes to show i earn less than my husband after divorce in 2022 to help pay for college

I'm applying for financial aid for my son for college. After my divorce is final I my AGI is a lot less. I want to amend my 2021 taxes to show my income.

Did you file a Joint return for 2021?  You can not change it now.  If you filed separate then what income is less to give you a lower AGI?

You cannot change or amend your 2021 tax return because of something that happens in 2022.

This community is for tax questions, not college financial aid questions. The page at the link below on the Federal Student Aid web site says that you should contact the financial aid office at your son's college and explain that your financial situation has changed.

What if my family’s financial situation has changed?

A special circumstances form lets the school know that your family’s income has fallen since the tax year reported on the FAFSA. It’s also useful for listing other financial changes such as a large medical expense.

Each school has its own form available from the financial aid office. If you haven’t decided on a school, you can fill out a form for each of your final choices. It’s best to fill out the form as soon as possible because it may increase your eligibility for aid for money awarded early in the academic calendar.

The deadline for application for the 2022-2023 school year is June 30, 2023.
