The IRS states it can take up to 9 weeks for them to process the paperwork you sent off and then make a decision and then release the refund. Some taxpayers have reported that it has taken less time this year.
@carolynmbelcher is your audit still ongoing or has the IRS resolved it? Just wondering because I was audited this year for claiming the Earned Income Credit. I sent in my supporting documents but have been unable to reach the IRS to ask them when they'll be releasing my refund.
What happened with yours rodrigud40 and original poster I just sent my agreeance off today. What's the time frame?
@dominicanna I had to wait 7 months for the IRS to release my refund. I got a tax advocate and it did not speed up the audit process. My refund was released in late July.
@SweetieJean @dominicanna No sorry it was actually 5-6 months. I filed my taxes at the end of January and it took close to the end of July for me to get my tax refund released after the audit.
I filed in January and I’m still waiting for my head of household verification documents to be reviewed... It’s September....
I decided to get a tax advocate to help speed up the process. July was the soonest they could resolve my audit. Which ended in no changes. Who knows how much longer it would have taken without a tax advocate helping me.
No.

@SweetieJean are you still waiting for your refund too?
@SweetieJean are you still waiting for your refund too?
@Luckyduck
No. I am a user volunteer who answers questions here.
Tax advocates are free. They can help expedite your tax refund. You will have to send them the same information you send to the IRS Audit Department. They will review your material and make a decision of whether they feel you have met the IRS requirements of your audit. They'll contact the Audit Department for you and ask that they release your refund. I would recommend getting one. Without their help I don't know what situation I would be in now. I wish I would have contacted them sooner. But I am glad it was concluded with no changes to my return as I sent in everything they asked for. It just hurt having to wait so long. But I didn't contact an advocate for 2/3 months. Figured I would just wait but the Audit Department was difficult to get ahold of. I was on hold for over 2 hours several times. No one could answer my questions but my advocate was communicative with me both through phone and mail. She gave me hope that everything was going to be fine and it was.
How long dose it take to get back your taxes after you send all your paper work in on audit. It been over a week going on 2
I sent my audit back feb26 I'm still waiting how long will I wait
According to the IRS, "The [waiting time] varies depending on the type of audit; the complexity of the issues; the availability of information requested; the availability of both parties for scheduling meetings; and your agreement or disagreement with the findings."
Therefore, we cannot give you a time frame for when your audit will be completed.
