We are here to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question? Is it change a filed 1099-NEC or a 1040 with a 1099-NEC?
It depends. Assuming you are trying to amend a 1099-NEC that you prepared and issued to someone else, you would follow the guide below to assist you in amending the 1099-NEC form.
If you prepared the 1099-NEC on a paper form, you will need to prepare a new information return and put an "X" in the corrected box. Please see the screenshot below for the error type to indicate on transmittal form 1096. You will need to complete the new 1099-NEC with the corrected information. Please see page 10 for specific instructions on 2024 General Instructions for Certain Information Returns from the IRS.
If you prepared the 1099-NEC and originally electronically filed the forms, you can efile your corrected forms. Please see pages 14-18 on Publication 1220 for specific instructions on how to file your corrected 1099-NEC.
If you are preparing your own tax return and received a corrected 1099-NEC and you have not filed your tax return yet, you can simply enter the corrected 1099-NEC and proceed with your tax return preparation.
If however, you have already filed your tax return, you should wait for it to be accepted. If the numbers have changed on your 1099-NEC form, you will need to amend your return after it has been filed and accepted.
