What amount do I pay to the IRS after the amended return is mailed? The original amount per the first tax return or the original amount less the refund per the amended return?

Hi. Your amended return and your original return are treated as two separate transactions by the IRS. So you will want to pay the original amount per the first return. The IRS will refund you the amount on your amended return.
