Amend Returns for both Fed & State

I made a nondeductable IRA contribution in 2019 and then convereted it to a Roth IRA.  As you no this is a nontaxable event at both the Fed & State level,  but I did not include form 8606 or add my associated 1099R forms in my return.  Since I need to amend my Federal return is there also a need to amend my state return?

Thanks

Since you are amending the Federal return anyway, go ahead and amend the state too just to be sure that nothing is changed.  There should not be a change in your refund or balance due, but there could be an amount reported on the state return due to the Form 1099-R distribution.  If you see that there is absolutely no change for the state, just do not send in the amended return.  TurboTax should also give you guidance about whether the state amended return is required when you are working through the amend process.

many times the IRS will inform your state that an amended return was filed. then you'll get a letter from the state asking for it even if nothing changes for state purposes.   It happened to me
