amend 2019 return after you file to change from standard to itemized

Due to the glitch in turbo tax for limited int/points for mortgage interest, my 2019 return wasn't calculated correctly and I submitted with standard deductions rather than itemized. I owe the IRS, but with itemized deductions, it's substantially less. Can I file an amended return prior to July 15 in order to lower the amount I'm supposed to pay on July 15? I'm pretty upset about this and spend hours trying to get my taxes right because I knew I should be entitled to itemized, but finally submitted and then found out later how I could have fixed this error.

Yes, you can amend your return before July 15th and pay the lower balance due.  As you are completing the amended return there should be a question that asks if the balance due has already been paid.  When you indicate that it has not been paid, then the amended return will take that into account and will show the lower balance due amount as a result of the changes you made.
