So, I accidentally added up what I owed for the federal and state taxes and paid that amount on the IRS' new 1040 payment website via credit card, rather than just paying the federal amount. Stupid mistake, I know. Will that money get refunded once the IRS sees that more money was paid than was was owed on the federal side of things? Or will I need to initiate that somehow?
