5695 Shows error ***AFTER*** filing

Been almost 4 days since I filed with TT "return checker" showing NO ERRORS and yet  IRS not yet accepting return.   So I go back into TT, do updates,  and now see an "exclamation mark" next to the 5695 marking an error.  Obviously, something changed AFTER they (TT) said the form was ready to file and I filed

The error from TT  "checker" was:  "Line 21C, Address Needed."   Really???   How long is that going to delay me??  Thanks TT.

Just spent 50 minutes online with their "support" and they simply don't have a clue.  They keep telling me I have to wait until it is rejected.  It should been rejected within 24-48hrs.   I think I am just going to use another service (free online taxes of some sort) and refile.  If TT ever goes through it will just get rejected as a duplicate.   20+ years of using TT and this is the first issue I have had with them.  Fortunately, my taxes are VERY simple.

@Retired In Florida I agree with everything you said. I'm not even going to waste my time calling TT again. They are all clueless!!

Unfortunately, while your local copy of Turbotax knows there is an error, you won't be able to fix the problem until the return is rejected by the IRS and sent back for correction.

I think it is possible that you could prepare and file a new return (if we assume that form 5695 is now fixed).  If using Turbotax installed on your own computer, this is free.  The second might go through and when the first is rejected, you ignore it.  However, if using Turbotax online, you would probably have to pay a second time, and I don't know if you can get a refund.

That’s an interesting suggestion.   I just may give it a try before going to another software product.  Only issue is having to reenter everything again unless it can be imported from initial 2023 file.

If the IRS accepts your TurboTax return then it will reject the second one.  But who knows which one will get processed first?

Here, if form 5695 was not correct when it was first released, it seems likely that returns filed with bad info on form 5695 will be rejected.

However, I should also point out the possibility that the IRS computers were not programmed correctly, and turbotax was sending form 5695 before the IRS was ready to accept it.  So maybe the IRS is holding 5695 returns without accepting or rejecting, while they update their own computers.  At this point, 5695 is a big mess on both sides.  The IRS was very late in approving the form, making Turbotax late in programming it.

@taxlady28 ,Sorry, but  it seems to ONLY be a "big mess" with Turbotax.  Many others have reported their other (brand) software is having no such issue as TT is having.  That has been reported here on this forum in "the other" long topic, on Reddit and on other "non-tax" forums I frequent.
