2024 Amended Tax Return Question

I filed my 2024 TurboTax return electronically on March 5.  That return showed a refund of $26,800.  The next day I realized that I had forgotten to add my wife's 1099-G of $9,809.  I amended the return, so TurboTax now shows that I owe $1,172, because, I assume,  TurboTax assumes that I have been refunded the $26,800 and now owe the IRS $1,172 due to overpayment.  During the filing of the amended return, I scheduled the overpayment to be drafted from my bank account on 4/15, with the assumption I would have received my refund prior to that.  My question is this: If I have not actually received my refund by 4/15, do I really owe the IRS anything on that date?  Seems to me that I'm only obligated to pay back overages I actually receive, and I have not received anything to-date.

No, if for some reason they catch your error, they will hold up the refund and ask you if you agree to their adjustment.

Then they will adjust your original refund.

Only if you get the full refund is the tax payment 1,172 due.
