Hello, we mailed out our hard copy taxes 2021 taxes Mid March 2022 with form W7 for my husband's ITIN. They requested more evidence in August and it was sent on time. Finally we received the ITIN number end of November. I've been trying to check the status online, but the answer is that the information does not match their records
What to do now, wait for the refund to be deposited? Or should we e-file with the ITIN? We were working on his immigrant status and he must be receiving his actual SSN anytime now, OR should we wait for the SSN and e-file with it.? What about the state taxes, when I check the status it doesn't match the records either.
@Mariacaropis , as I understand from your post --
1. you filed jointly ( I am assuming that your Name/ SSN was shown first and that you are a resident/ citizen ) along with a request for his ITIN and a statement that he is to be treated as a resident for the year ---YES?
2. You have at last received the ITIN for him but the return is still in limbo -- no refund issued. And since your state is awaiting IRS disposition of the file, they are also waiting.
In such a case -- (a) call or visit the local IRS office and they should be able to tell where the processing is ; (b) contact the state tax office and also try to get this resolved -- show them the ITIN application disposition; (c) do not amend / refile the return with his ITIN or SSN -- it will just create more confusion. (c) if after chasing this with the IRS , you do not get a satisfactory answer, then with all the documentation of efforts to get this thing resolved , approach the local tax-payer advocate's office -- they will not get involved unless you can show that you have tried to normal channels to get IRS to resolve this .
I would be very interested in the progress of this case , so please share if you can --- no personally identifiable information , please .

Just as clarification, Yes, we filled jointly with me as the principal, since I have SSN and I am a citizen. We received the notification with the ITIN number.
Thanks for the advice, I will check on those offices to try to see what the status is.
Thanks for stopping me from e-filing one more time, I will try to be patient, but when they owe you some money (Big Shunk) you start getting nervous.
Will keep you updated.
@Mariacaropis much gusto conocer le. Quando trabajando con IRS, as veces necesita mucho patienca -- no hay otro manera
Adios,

Just Some basic information… The return was not sent to the IRS for processing until the ITIN number was issued Sometime in November. Be aware that this is considered a paper return and those are taking six months or longer to process. It will not show up in the IRS where is my refund tool until A data input operator enters it into the system. There’s nothing you can do to speed this up so all you can do is be patient and check the IRS tool once a week to see if you’re in the system.
