Was this from an inheritance?

No, this is an extra payment from a stock sale in 2018 - $25.99.  The original sale of the stock was forced by the owners of the company who went private.  (NY Mets purchased the local community owned minor league baseball team and forced us to sell them our shares of stock)

I also have questions on 1099B that is from inheritance.  Not sure what "code" to use beneath "total adjustments gain (or loss).

If you have any information at all, enter it for the appropriate box. For example if you know if it is long or short term or the cost. If you have no amount for cost, it automatically becomes zero.

Thanks for your response!  I'm stuck on after selecting "Box A Short Term Covered" box.  I had to select " I need to enter amounts from box 1f or 1g..." and then it asks me for a code.  I've searched the IRS and Intuit and cannot figure out what letter "code" to use.  Greatly appreciate any guidance you can offer.

Wash sales are code W.

Reporting Wash Sales on Form 8949

All investment sales are reported on Form 8949, then summarized on Schedule D. The IRS requires that the transaction be identified with code "W" in column (b), and the loss adjustment must be reported in column (g).

still don't know how to enter this info - since many boxes are empty on the 1099B.  Should I just make up info for boxes 1a through 1g?  When I tried this I noticed my net change to total income went up by $48 instead of $26 - why?

Also, when this is done will the amended return be sent to both IRS and state?

No, leave the empty boxes blank. Just enter the boxes that are filed out on the 1099-B form.

When you are done, print, sign and mail in the amended return.

Amended return can't be e-filed.
