1099-C Question

Hi I received a 2014 1099C and added it to my tax return for credit card debt.  In 2016 I ended up paying that back.  Can I do anything (amend 2014 or take a deduction in 2016) on either of those tax years to not pay tax on the 1099C that I included in 2014?

You can amend all you like, but there is really no point since you will not be able to get a refund; there is a three-year limitation (from the return due date) on refunds from the IRS.

In other words, the latest you could have received a refund from the 2016 tax year (return filed in 2017) would have been in 2020. The time has long passed, obviously.
