1040-ES Vouchers

We owed for federal taxes this year. At the end of filing, I entered our account information for the entire amount we owe to be paid at once. I also got 4 1040-ES payment vouchers. Since I paid the entire amount of what we owed for federal through TurboTax, do I need to make the 4 voucher payments?

The vouchers are for next year's taxes.   We'll automatically include four quarterly 1040-ES vouchers with your printout if you didn't withhold or pay enough tax this year.  We do this to head off a possible underpayment penalty on next year's taxes.

You may get these vouchers if you're self-employed or had an uncharacteristic spike in your income this year. For example, you sold stock or took a large distribution from your retirement plan.

You're not required to make estimated tax payments; we're just suggesting it based on the info in your return. If you feel they're not needed for next year's taxes, you can shred them.  Why did these vouchers print?

I still do not understand. I did work a job last year in 2024 from July-Dec where no taxes were taken out of my paychecks. Because of this, we have to pay for federal taxes this year (for 2024). I paid the entire amount which is $3 less than what the 4 vouchers add up to be. Why would I have to pay that same amount again next year if I have it scheduled to be paid this year already?

It's your chice to use the voucher amounts calculated, some other amounts or amounts of zero.

IRS expects you to pay over time, not all at once on April 15, 2026.

Tthe first 2025 Estimated Tax Payment Date is April 15, 2025, same as Tax Day.
