How do I find my local sales tax?

If you're asking because you're taking the sales tax deduction, try the IRS Sales Tax Deduction Calculator.

Here are more ways to get this information:

  • Search online (try a ZIP code search as taxes can vary by community)

  • Check local store receipts

  • Ask a competent merchant or cashier in your area

If you live in one area, but frequently shop in areas with different tax rates, the most accurate method is to add up all the sales tax from your receipts.

You can also use the EasyGuide in TurboTax to get a reasonable estimate of the state and local taxes you paid during the year.
