Statement from Alabama Department of Revenue: "For the most up-to-date information concerning the status of your current year refund, call 1-855-894-7391 or check our website, then click on Where's My Refund. Return processing times vary depending on many factors, including complexity of the return and our identity verification processes. Please allow 8 to 12 weeks to receive your refund.
"The Department is once again converting some tax refunds to a paper check that were requested to be delivered by direct deposit. Making this change is intended to prevent criminals from easily diverting fraudulently filed refunds to their own accounts. Avoiding potential refund fraud by sending paper checks outweighs taking the risk of sending a refund electronically to the wrong party."
To check the status of your refund, go to My Alabama Taxes and then select Check my refund status/Where's My Refund?, located under Refunds. The Alabama Department of Revenue begins processing refunds starting March 1.
The state will ask you to enter the exact amount of your expected refund in whole dollars. You can find this by signing in to TurboTax. If you're using the mobile app, you may need to scroll down to find your refund amount.
The refund date you'll see doesn't include the days your financial institution may take to process a direct deposit or the time a paper check may take to arrive in the mail. If you still have questions about your state tax refund, contact the Alabama Department of Revenue.
As much as we would like to help, TurboTax does not distribute refunds, only the IRS or your state tax agency can legally do so.
