What if I entered the wrong bank account for direct deposit?

If you entered the wrong bank account information for your direct deposit, you have some options to help ensure you still get your refund.

If you forgot a digit, or your deposit was rejected because the name on the account didn’t match yours, the IRS will mail you a check.

But, if your bank accepts the deposit and it goes into the wrong account, you’ll need to contact the bank directly to resolve the issue.

If your return hasn’t been posted to the IRS, you can call them directly at 800-829-1040 and ask to stop the direct deposit.

Should your e-filed return be rejected, you’ll have the opportunity to re-enter your banking information after you fix the error.
