Why am I getting the message "Employer Name has too many characters" in TurboTax?

by TurboTax6 Updated 3 weeks ago

This issue is related to a limit of 35 characters (including spaces) for the employer name. Also, the hyphen (-) is the only special character allowed in the employer name. Choose your product and follow the instructions if you encounter this issue in TurboTax.

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Select Federal, then Wages & Income.
  3. Select Job (W-2).
  4. Select Edit next to your W-2 on the W-2 Summary screen.
  5. Edit your employer's name by removing any commas, periods, and other special characters besides the hyphen from the employer name, and deleting characters at the end of the employer name (the IRS typically uses the first four letters to match the employer name for validation purposes).
  6. Select Continue.
