How do I fix errors on my Form 1099-B that I imported into TurboTax?
by TurboTax•92• Updated 7 months ago
Some TurboTax customers may encounter an issue with their Form 1099-B import, where they get an erroneous cost basis adjustment code N.
To ensure your return is not impacted, if you see any errors flagged by the originally imported forms in TurboTax up through and including e-file, delete Form 1099-B and re-import it. You can also delete the imported Form 1099-B and manually enter your 1099-B data.
Delete your 1099-B data:
- Open or continue your return.
- Go to Federal, then Wages & Income, and select I’ll choose what to work on.
- Scroll down and in the Investments and Savings section, select Update next to Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other.
- In Your investment sales summary, select the trash can icon next to any accounts you believe are impacted by the import issue.
Note: You do not need to delete any forms that you manually entered. Delete only forms you imported from accounts using your financial institution's sign-in credentials. - Select Yes when asked if you are sure you want to delete.
Re-import your 1099-B data using your financial institution's credentials:
- Open or continue your return.
- Go to Federal, then Wages & Income, then Investments and Savings.
- Select Revisit next to Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B).
- If you see Did you sell any of these investments in 2023?, select Yes. If you see Your Investment summary, select Add more sales.
- Select Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and Continue.
- Type the name of your financial institution in the search box, select the appropriate financial institution name, and select Continue.
- Enter your financial institution's credentials to sign in, and follow the remaining screens to re-import your 1099-B forms. Be sure to re-import only the forms that you deleted previously. If you made adjustments after your original import, you will need to re-enter those as well.
Manually re-enter your 1099-B data:
- Open or continue your return.
- Go to Federal, then Wages & Income, then Investments and Savings.
- Select Start or Revisit next to Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B).
- If you see Did you sell any of these investments in 2023?, select Yes. If you see Your investment summary, select Add more sales.
- Select Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and Continue.
