How do I fix missing screens, buttons, or images in TurboTax Desktop for Windows?

SOLVEDby TurboTax160Updated March 03, 2023

If you come across a screen that's blank or has missing buttons and images in TurboTax Desktop for Windows, try these fixes.

  • Updated your software to the most recent version
  • Update video card drivers
    • You can update your video card driver by visiting your video card manufacturer's website. For some integrated system video cards, you might be able to do this via a Windows update
  • Disconnect from your VPN and temporarily turn off security software
    • After temporarily disabling these, add TurboTax and Intuit to any exception lists in your software
  • Run TurboTax as an administrator
    1. Exit TurboTax if it's still running
    2. Right-click the TurboTax icon on your desktop
    3. Select Properties
    4. Select Compatibility
    5. Under Settings, check the Run this program as an administrator box and select Apply
  • Adjust your display resolution and hide the Windows taskbar
    1. Select Start and then Control Panel
    2. Select Display
    3. Select Settings
    4. Adjust the Screen Resolution to more than 800x600
    5. Select OK to apply the change and close the window
    6. Right-click the Windows taskbar and select Taskbar settings
    7. Select Automatically hide the taskbar
    8. Close the window to apply the change
    9. To make the taskbar reappear, hover over the bottom of the screen

Close TurboTax and follow each step until the issue is resolved.

  • If you're running your computer on a single monitor, check if your display settings are set for multiple monitors. If so, change to a single monitor
  • If you are running multiple monitors, try unplugging one of the monitors
  • Minimize the TurboTax Community window
  • Switch between Forms Mode and Step-by-Step
  • If you're running Windows 10, right-click the TurboTax icon and select Run as Administrator
  • Update your Windows drivers
  • Turn off any programs installed on your computer that block content
  • Reinstall MSXML 3.0

If these steps don't resolve your issue, see this article for more help.
