What if I need more time to pay my fees before the auto-debit date?
by TurboTax• Updated 4 weeks ago
If you chose to pay with your refund, but your refund is delayed or offset, TurboTax fees may be automatically drawn from your bank account. This is called auto-debit.
If you need more time to pay your TurboTax fees, you can use your one-time auto-debit deferral. This lets you delay your auto-debit date by 21 days. This option is only available for one use. Once you have used this option, you won't be able to use it again.
You can check your auto-debit date by referencing your most recent billing notice email from TurboTax.
To request a deferral and get an additional 21 days prior to the auto-debit transaction, follow these steps:
- From your most recent email, select Payment options.
- Next, select Defer debit.Â
- If prompted, select Authorize on the next screen to confirm your request to defer.
- You'll now see your new auto debit date instead of the old one.
If Defer debit isn't showing, deferral is unavailable. Some of the reasons this may occur are:
- It's later than 12 PM PT on the Thursday prior to the original debit date. Auto-debits can only be deferred prior to 12 PM PT on the Thursday prior to the original debit date.
- You have already used your one-time deferral. Auto-debit dates can only be deferred once.
As an alternative to deferring your auto-debit date, you can also choose to pay your TurboTax fees through the payment portal using a credit or debit card. Here's how:
- From your most recent email, select Payment options.
- Next, select Make payment.Â
- Enter your debit or credit card information and follow any additional prompts.
- You'll get a confirmation on screen or by email once you're approved.
