Passkeys FAQs

by TurboTax6 Updated 7 months ago

Learn how passkeys offer extra security and more convenience for signing in to your Intuit Account. Plus, get details on how to add, delete, and use passkeys.

Passkeys are encrypted digital keys that are more secure than passwords or one-time passcodes, because they're stored on your device and never shared with a website or app. Also, passkeys can't be guessed and they’re resistant to phishing attacks.

Signing in with a passkey is exactly like unlocking your device—with your face, fingerprint, or what your device supports. This secure design protects your passkeys even if your device is lost or stolen. You can also use the same passkeys across multiple devices.

Passkeys are more convenient than other security methods, because you don’t need to remember a password or be able to receive one-time passcodes with SMS or email.

A passkey replaces your password and two-step verification with just one step. You enroll once and then sign in with your passkey the same way you unlock your device with your face, fingerprint, or screen lock.

Passkeys are saved to your keychain or password manager, so you can sign in on other devices.

Make sure you’re using the latest version of your web browser or device’s operating system.

If you have a passkey set up for Intuit and we recognize your device and Intuit Account, you’ll be prompted to sign in with a passkey. Simply follow the system instructions—signing in with a passkey only takes a second.

If we don’t recognize your device or account, we’ll verify your identity another way and then let you use your passkey.

Yes, you'll still have the option to sign in with your password. But we recommend using your passkey to sign in to your Intuit Account, because it's phishing-resistant and more secure than your password.

Follow these steps to add or delete passkeys connected to your Intuit Account

Add a passkey:

1. Sign in to your Intuit Account. Use the sign-in info you use for QuickBooks, TurboTax, Credit Karma, or our professional tax products.

2. Select the Sign in & security menu.

3. Select the Passkeys section.

Select Add a passkey and follow the prompts.

Delete a passkey:

1. Sign in to your Intuit Account. Use the sign-in info you use for QuickBooks, TurboTax, Credit Karma, or our professional tax products.

2. Select the Sign in & security menu.

3. Select the Passkeys section.

4. Find the passkey you want to delete and select Edit

5. Then select Delete passkey

When you delete passkeys from your Intuit Account, make sure your password, email, and phone are updated. That will give you another way to sign in, so you don’t get locked out of your account.

You should also delete this passkey from your device password manager to prevent it from being shown as an autofill suggestion next time you sign in.

When you remove a passkey from Intuit, you also need to remove it from your device by deleting it from your device password manager. This will prevent it from being shown as an autofill suggestion next time you sign in.

Each device and operating system is different, but you can usually find your password manager under Settings or Security. Look for the name of the web site or app, such as Intuit or TurboTax, in the list of passwords and passkey.

Yes, you'll be able to use your passkey on any devices associated with your Intuit Account, even when you get a new device. Losing your phone or getting a new device won't lock you out of your Intuit Account.

If you get a new device that uses the same operating system or password manager where your passkeys are saved—such as, Apple, Google, or Microsoft— and then set the device up with your account, your passkeys will be synced and available for sign-in on the new device.

Each Intuit Account will have its own passkey connected to that account’s identifier (phone number, email, or user ID). If you only have one Intuit Account, you can use one passkey to sign in to all your Intuit Products across multiple devices.
