Terms and Conditions for Tax Year 2013
If you are a registered user of TurboTax 2013 and you receive an audit letter from the IRS or State Department of Revenue relating to your 2013 TurboTax return, then Intuit will provide free year-round audit guidance (what to expect and how to prepare) from a tax professional, to help answer your audit questions.
Audit Support Guarantee covers both Federal and State audit letters and/or notices. If you are not satisfied with how your situation was handled, then you are entitled to a refund of the applicable purchase price paid by you for the federal and/or state TurboTax 2013 product your purchased. TurboTax Federal Free Edition customers are entitled to payment of $14.99 and a refund of your state purchase price paid. Excludes TurboTax Business (forms 1065, 1120, 1120S, and 1041).
Claims must be submitted within sixty (60) days of the date you received your audit guidance, but no later than June 17, 2017 (3 years). All other fees are excluded including, electronic filing fees, Audit Defense, Refund Processing Service and technical support fees. This Guarantee cannot be combined with any other Guarantee.
To qualify, you must successfully efile, print and mail your individual federal or state income tax return (with paid or qualifying free federal return) using TurboTax 2013. Claims must be submitted to Intuit within sixty days of the date you received your audit guidance by submitting a claim with the following documents:
- Audit Support Guarantee Claim Request Summary; and
- Copy of your TurboTax proof of payment; and
- IRS or State audit letter.

Please use a traceable mailing method and maintain copies of submitted items for your records. Claims of non-payment will require photocopy substantiation of all required items. Please allow up to 6 weeks for processing and delivery.
If after 8 weeks you have not received your check, contact us. To validate your claim, and as a precondition of refund payment, Intuit may require your TurboTax 2013 data file and/or other supporting information such as copies of your printed tax returns.
The TurboTax Audit Risk Meter is available in TurboTax Deluxe, TurboTax Premier and TurboTax Home & Business.
Audit Defense is available for purchase from within any TurboTax product for an additional fee. Service provided by TaxResources, Inc.; additional fees apply.
Which TurboTax products are covered by the Audit Support Guarantee? What's not covered?
This Guarantee covers all 2011, 2012, and 2013 individual federal and state tax returns prepared through TurboTax, including Home & Business, Free Edition, and Federal Free File Alliance software.
The Audit Support Guarantee does not cover:
- Reimbursement of add-on fees (e.g. Refund Processing Service, Audit Defense, etc.)
- TurboTax Business;
- Form 1040NR and other tax forms not supported in TurboTax;
- Rejected returns;
- 2010 or prior-year tax returns;
- Audit representation;
- Audit or legal advice;
- Audit notices or letters received more than 3 years from the filing deadline for the return (not including extensions);
- Tax returns that were prepared or filed in violation of the TurboTax End-User License Agreement.
How does the Audit Support Guarantee differ from Audit Support Center or Audit Defense?
The Audit Support Center is a free, self-help tool, which provides details on the various kinds of notices.
In fact, if you get a letter from the IRS, your first step should be to download the Audit Support Center to 1) help you determine whether you've received a notice or an audit and 2) get step-by-step instructions on what to do next.
Audit Defense is a service you purchase through TurboTax before you file your return. Services include defending your return, scheduling and attending auditing sessions and assisting with all correspondence, at no additional cost.
