Windows 11 does not support TT

My computer recently crashed. My new computer has Windows 11 and is 64 bit. I tried downloading the 2023 TurboTax, which I lost when my old computer crashed, but it says that Windows 11 does not support TurboTax.  I still have the 2023 tax files saved on an exterior drive. I need the program so that it can populate the 2024 tax program when I download it.

If you downloaded from Intuit and got that error message, then contact support.  If you downloaded from somewhere else, you may be trying to download a corrupted software.

Make sure you have updated Windows.  So try updating and then reboot your computer and update Windows again to make sure you got all the updates.

Are you running Win 10 or 11 in S mode? You need to switch out of S mode.

Are you using the CD or Download?  This might have some ideas to check,  Reinstall Turbo Tax for Windows 8.1/10/11

My computer is a Dell desk top and is only a week old. It was fully updated on day one, but I have continually checked for updates every day, and there are no updates. I see from past comments that this issue with Windows not supporting TT goes back for at least two years. The TT 2023 download version for desk top computers was downloaded from Intuit when I purchased it from Intuit (Turbo Tax) last year.

Supplemental.  When I contacted Turbo Tax support (India), I was told I had only used two of the five downloads, so I should still have three remaining.  When I follow the link the provided to download, that is when TT indicates that Windows 11 does not support TT.  I explained this to the person on the phone, but there is a language barrier (India).

I just did some research about "S" mode, and I found out that it is a security feature only available on Windows 11 when  downloading certain programs from the app store.  Once you opt out of the S mode, Windows 11 it will not allow you to return to its original state. So, I do not believe I will go that route at this time. Thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.

If you don't go that route, you will not be able to install TurboTax.

S mode only allows you to install and run apps from the Windows store.

@PipiR   So you are in S mode?   S mode only lets you download from the Microsoft App Store.  If you take it out of S mode you can still download from the App Store.   Your computer just won’t be as secure.

Final Update:  I was able to somehow find a "back door" to accomplish the task of downloading the 2023 TT program. I discovered that I had previously signed in to my Intuit account with one name, and a different user name on Turbo Tax. The license was only linked to one of those accounts, and as a result, one account was not recognizing the license.  Once the license was linked to the correct user name, it allowed me to download the 2023 TT program. I now have it up and running and have finished transferring the 2023 tax files. I will now be able to populate the information once I download the 2024 tax program. All is good. Thank you all for your assistance.

I just ordered TurboTax2024 from Amazon.  I cannot get past a blank activation page and if I do, it says I am not connected to the Internet, which obviously I am.  I have tried every type of troubleshooting recommended and Windows says TT 2024 is not compatible.  Now what?  I can’t get any type of help from Intuit or TurboTax.  I purchased TurboTax Premier and have used TT products for years.

This looks like it has been resolved. Please let us know if you continue with the problem.

I am having the same problem.  my laptop (windows 10) has no problems.  My wife (windows 11 new) has no problems. My high end desktop (windows 11) loads and installs, but, when I launch I get the message "We've hit a snag activating your product".  I have disabled Norton and Windows  virus .. updated ... restarted ... uninstalled and reinstalled.  At this point I have spent more time trying to install than I ever did doing my taxes.  First time Turbotax is a mostly failed product.... My desktop is the preferred portal, but, will probably have to do on my crumby laptop.

Have you tried the 'S Mode' feature mentioned above on your desktop?

Since TurboTax did install on your wife's laptop with Windows 11, you could try this.

Thanks .. but after reading about S mode I think i will just use a different computer ...  I have installed many apps not in the Microsoft store, so , TT should install ..

I may be wrong .. I have win11 pro .. and the description of S mode defies understanding.

Going through the Microsoft help just make my head spin.

And .. I must assume turbo tax will not work on my computer in the future .. I like it (10+ year user).

Not sure what i will do in the future.

This happened to me a week or so ago.  Apparently TT was working on a fix and when I went back in the next day, I was able to install it and activate it.  There is another thread somewhere in this community discussion about a customer service number you might be able to call to help get it activated.  I was in the same situation as you - had used TT for years and wasn’t sure what I would do.  It’s very frustrating and they should have had it fixed by now instead of driving people crazy.

I cannot install TT on my windows11 either.  Get a message about disable security , run in safe mode, I did my best to try, but, the same message continues to pop.  I had windows 11 in 2023 with no problems.  TT has changed somehow and is not helpful.

To exit S mode on Windows 11, follow these steps:

  • Open Settings
  • Click System
  • Click Activation
  • find the "Switch to Windows 11 Pro" section
  • click "Go to the Store
  • on the Microsoft Store page that appears, select "Get" to switch out of S mode.

Thank you

I already have Windows 11 pro... so maybe that is the problem? I have spent several hours trying this and that.

Nothing works.  Appreciate the suggestions.  It just will not work .... you can close this ticket.

I am fairly tech savy .. this is beyond me.
