Will my Direct Debit Work?

Using TT Deluxe Desktop for Mac. I efiled returns for two different family members. The second one printed off a 1040-V to mail a payment, but I did everything the same.

See pics for reference...

On the Info Wks in Part 5, 'Yes' is checked for both for the question 'Do you want to elect direct debit of federal balance due (Electronic Filing only)?"

Both have the correct banking info and routing numbers.

Under Enter the following information only if you are requesting direct debit of balance due:,

both have the date of 4/10/2025 for 'Enter the payment date to withdraw from the above account.

But, for the 'Balance Due amount for this return, the one that printed the 1040-V is blank. The other one has the correct amount.

So now I'm worried that the amount won't be debited. Is there anything else I can check to see why it is like this? Why would one produce a 1040-V and not the other?

If you elected direct debit to pay a balance due, neither one should print a 1040-V.  That's used for mailing a check.

Check your Filing Instructions.

Thank you Marilyn. I went back and opened up last year's desktop app and it was the same way. But the direct debits both worked okay so I'm not too worried about it. But I don't know why it would do that. The only difference is that the 1040-V one is my dependent and the other one isnt.

Honestly, I'm freaking out right now. I chose direct debit in Turbo Tax when I filed my taxes this past Sunday. There is ZERO proof of this in any of the printed documents from Turbo Tax. This should not be this difficult.

Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about your payment.

If you want to check the debit date you specified, look on the filing instructions for your return.  It will tell you the debit date the IRS or State will deduct the payment.  If you did not print them out you can view them using the following steps:

TurboTax Online

  1. In TurboTax Online, sign into your account.
  2. You should be on your Tax Home page.
  3. Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents.
  4. Select 2024, and then select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this just gets you into the right menu).
  5. Once you're in your return, you can navigate around as usual.
  6. Click Tax Tools (in the black bar on the left of your screen) and then click select Print Center.
  7. Click Print, save or preview this year's return

TurboTax CD/Download

  1. Go into Forms Mode by clicking on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar.
  2. In the Forms in My Return list on the left, click Filing Inst.  [It's usually toward the bottom of the list.]  The form will appear on the right side of the screen.
  3. You can view the form on the screen or you can print a copy by clicking the Print box at the bottom of the screen.
  4. To return to the interview, click on the Step-By-Step icon in the top right of the blue bar.
