Your tax return has to match with what the Department of Social Security has on file.  If you never updated your name with Social Security, it will continue to be under your maiden name.

I did change my last name with social security office and entered all my info with my married name.

The transcript is based on the information on the return as you filed it.  Filed tax returns are not updated for name changes so whatever your last name was when you filed is what is on your transcript.

I assume that you are seeing an IRS tax transcript?

I assume that you filed the tax return under your maiden name  I doubt whether the IRS transcripts are updated to reflect any name change made through the Social Security Administration.

I have the same question. I change my name with social security administration and filed with my new name however my tax transcript shows my maiden name. In fact I was only able to creat an account on the it’s website with my maiden name. It didn’t recognize my new last name. Is that normal?

No, it is not normal, but the IRS can be very slow to recognize a name change.

The main thing is that your Social Security Number is correct.  Eventually, the IRS will change your name to match SSA information.

You can contact the IRS and ask them to change the name on your account, and that may speed up the process.

Will that delay my taxes? They were accepted already. I’m just seeing the path message when I check my status.

I changed it about a year ago. All of my w-2’s have my new name.

It should not delay your refund if you filed with your name and Social Security Number matching your Social Security Administration records.
