Why did my refund go down

Our original refund was over $2,800. My wife received a 1098-E form so we had to go back and amend to account for her student loan interest. This dropped our refund to $575 it appears. Usually this ups our return so we are confused why it dropped so much?

I don't think that's what happening. When you amend a return, the program shows the additional refund you are due for the change. So, if your original refund was $2800 and now it says $575, that means you are getting another $575 on top of the $2800..

Your revised 1040 should show a refund of $3375. The 1040-X should show an additional amount due to you of $575.
