Why defaults to1040-SR when DOB August 1955?

Turbo Tax has prepared our taxes on 1040-SR rather than the regular form 1040.

IRS Instructions say this is option for those who were born prior to 1 January 1955 --  But that is not us!

My spouse turned 65 in August, and I am some years away.

Why did Turbo Tax do this??

The Form 1040 and the Form 1040SR are exactly the same form.  The only difference is the 1040SR has a larger typeface.

Since your spouse is age 65 or older the Form 1040SR is used.

They may be the same, but IRS clearly states in their instructions that as per The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018:

“Taxpayers born before January 2, 1955, have the option to file Form 1040-SR whether they are working, not working ... “

Did Intuit elect to ignore those instructions?

My spouse was born after that date (Aug 1955) and yet Turbo Tax use the Senior Version anyway.

I should have added a “Thanks”.   Reading my own post I probably sounded combative — not my intent.

Your fast reply was most appreciated.
