You can enter your tax exempt dividends reported on a 1099-DIV into TurboTax here:

  1. Select Federal Taxes
  2. Select Wages & Income (I'll choose what i work on)
  3. You may need to click on Skip to see all income
  4. Scroll down to Interest and Dividends
  5. Click on Show more and then Interest on 1099-DIV
  6. Start or Update

Then when you enter your 1099-DIV into TurboTax, under the field that you input your dividend income there is a box you can check that says  "My form has info in more than just these boxes (this is uncommon)."  When you check this box, more boxes from the 1099-DIV will appear, including Tax Exempt Dividends.

If you need to enter tax exempt interest, you can follow the same instructions in the 1099-INT section.
