Where do I change my dependent status?

My father unknowingly claimed me on his taxes this year when he shouldn't have and already received his refund.

If your parents could claim you as a dependent on their return, you won't be able to claim yourself (even if they choose not to claim you).  [IRS Pub. 17, p. 25]

Note this information in the Personal Info section of TurboTax:

  1. Click on the Personal Info tab.
  2. Click on Edit next to your name.
  3. In section #3, mark the box that Someone else can claim me on their tax return.
  4. Then mark whether that your parent(s) will claim you on their 2019 return.
  5. Continue with the rest of the return.

I don't see this box. I am using the 2019 Premier Edition.

Thanks!

In the My Info section of your return, click Edit to the right of your name. You will need to scroll down past your personal information and states you have lived in to section # 3, as mentioned above, A few other things we need to know. The first item listed states Someone else can claim me as a dependent on their tax return. You can choose the radial button Yes or No.
