When does the state e-file fee increase from 19.99 to 24.99 this year?

It already has increased. If you go here https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/ and click on 1 state download under the Deluxe or higher versions, scroll to the very bottom of the pop-up window that appears and you'll see price for e-filing state returns there.

This applies to the CD/Download versions of the software only. There is no e-file fee when using TurboTax Online. And you can avoid the e-file fee in CD/Download version if you print and mail the state return.

I bought the software from COSCO and it clearly said 19.99 for state e-file. But when filed my return intuit changed me 24.99. Please refund the excess charged back to my card

The early prices expired March 1.  It says on the box (yes its there) prices subject to change.  The prices always go up up in March.  Something to remember for next year.

Yes it says prices subject to change, but does not say it expires March 1.  This is insane it should have made it clear on the box. Millions of people buy this software I don't understand the intention of hiding things under covers. For a reputed company like intuit I feel it does not look good put things under covers for customers. It should have clearly written on the box that price 19.99 expires on March 1

The exact date is not known.  In prior years it was March 15.  Last year they changed it on March 1.  Who knows when it will be next year.  That's why it says subject to change.

Instead of paying to e-file your state return, print it and mail it to avoid the fee.

Thank you for the info.  I thought it was usually mid-March sometime, but I see it's already gone up.  I wish TurboTax was a little more upfront about this fee in regard to when exactly it increases.  Thanks again.

The increase became effective March 1.  Print and mail your state return to avoid the state e-file fee.

Hi,

First of all, the above message is not accurate. The prices are NOT where it indicates they are.

Secondly, I did four tax returns. The first three the e-filing fee for the state was $20. Why was the fourth one $25?

Thanks

@brennerfinancial The message you are referring to is very old---the CD/download packaging or the placement of the fees on the web site have no doubt been changed somewhat by now.   Every year, the fees for online software and for the desktop state e-filing go up  in March.  That is why it increased to $25 for your last one.   To avoid the state e-filing fee you can print and mail the state returns instead.

There was an Early Bird discount that expired on Feb 28.

The early prices always expire around March 1, every year.  You should have received an e-mail last week to finish by Feb 27 or 28.

Nope. Did not receive an email.  Oh well, no biggie.
