We need to fix an error with boxes 15-17 with same state with different wages amount

I have valid 2 entries in W2 with 2 different wages and tax for same state NJ. How do I resolved this issue?

If these are valid entries, you should sum them, so that you only have one line item instead of two for New Jersey.

In other words, I assume the Employer ID is the same, so Box 16 will be the two Box 16s added together, and box 17 will be the two Box 17s added together.

Yes, the employer Id for NJ state is same. So unless I add them and put it in there it won't let me file? Can I ignore this error and continue?

No, I don't think that you can ignore the error, because I am afraid that when you try to file it might stop you.

Have you asked your employer WHY there are two such entries? I might see this if the company underwent some restructuring and changing the books, but then why not two NY entries?

Mindy's advice might work, depending on why your employer did it, but I would want to know why your employer thought that this was a good idea. Then I think we would feel better about your situation.
