Washington DC Forms (for 2022)

Hi -

I am using Turbo Tax Deluxe 2022 to do a simple tax filing (standard deductions). When I try to get a PDF copy (before filing online), it says "Your District Of Columbia return(s) is currently unavailable to view, print or download because some of the forms haven't been finalized yet".

I just talked with someone at Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) in DC and she said she is not aware of any delays in forms availability and she knows people have been filing. She suggested to reach out to Turbo Tax as there may be a glish in the system.

Any information will be great (as I would like to file the taxes and be done with it)

Thanks

All of the forms that are available for the District of Columbia are already in TurboTax. There are some forms that are not supported or available for the District of Columbia.

Please check out Use this tool at the beginning of the TurboTax Help article to see what is not included with TurboTax. Search Individual, and District of Columbia to see the forms that are available.

Thanks PattiF

Following your suggestions, it seems all the forms I will need (e.g., D-40) is available, but I am still getting the message "Your District Of Columbia return(s) is currently unavailable to view, print or download because some of the forms haven't been finalized yet" when trying to save it as PDF before filing it. I have been getting this message for about a week now. I suppose I have no options but to wait and hope for an update. Please let me know if there is something else I can do besides just wait.

Thanks again

You need to e-file before you can save it as a PDF file.

Please see this TurboTax Help with information about saving your return as a PDF file.

Thanks again but I do not think that is true - ever year I check the PDF to verify everything before filing.  Not that I do, but I can decide to print the PDF and mail them (instead of filing online) - so, have to file on-line first before saving it as a PDF cannot be correct. Please correct me otherwise.  I also thought the error could be a "fake error" but when I look at the saved PDF, it only has my federal taxes.

Do you have a way of checking about this error and see and see why I am getting this error or if corrections are coming?

Thanks again for your time.

You do need to pay before you can access the PDF.

If you have paid already, there may be something else going on with your return.

Please send a diagnostic copy of your tax return to TurboTax so they can investigate this problem. In the diagnostic copy, all SSN, names, addresses, and other personal info will be replaced with generic info.

To send a diagnostic copy in TTO:

  1. Click Tax Tools in the menu on the left.
  2. Click Tools.
  3. Click "Share my file with Agent"
  4. Click OK
  5. Write down the token number and post it in this thread.

Could be a number of things BUT:

1)  IF you are using the DESKTOP/download software, run a software update...maybe they are ready.

2) The State forms help page that TTX has, currently indicates all e-fileable forms are ready...BUT sometimes someone jumps the gun and says they are all ready before a couple actually are.....or perhaps someone found a software bug in a form and took it out of the ready mode (and the State help page wasn't updated)

___________

in any case...wait until Friday 10 Feb and check then.  Most software updates happen on Wed or Thurs night, so a Friday is the best time to check.

A Desktop software update has to be initiated by you...but for Online software, updates will be automatic.

Thanks again PattiF

Yes I have a paid copy of the Turbo Tax Deluxe - window version (paid for it and downloaded it) - I have been doing this for many years now (and I kind of know the routine). Thanks for the steps for sending the diagnostic. I will do that in few weeks if the issue continues (after few updates)

Thanks Steam Train (what a cool name).

Every time I open the TT from my desktop, a window pops up and ask if I want to do the updates - that is how I update the TT - and sometimes the window does not pop up if there are no updates.

I will wait few more days and see if the issue still is there after few updates (since I still have plenty of time). I really hope this correct itself as the process of filing taxes with TT is very smooth usually until it is not.

Thanks again

@ex

1)  Yeah, I get that pop-up too, but I've always been somewhat hesitant to let it update that way....historically, there have occasionally been certain hiccups when done that way.  Instead, I let the home page open up, then go to the top menu, and start the update that way.  You might try that next time in case there is some issue with the normal start-up update session...not sure why there would be an issue, but it's worth a shot.

2) I presume that when you go stepwise thru the State/DC interview Q&A section, that seems to go OK, including perhaps the State error check.....and apparently you can't seem to get a DC  form set as a PDF to save or print..

......But, if you switch to Forms Mode, and scroll down to the DC section, can you open any DC forms there and Save-or-print them out that way?...even if 1-by-1.  Some of those forms may be labelled as Do Not File  when you just look at them in Forms Mode, and other than worksheets, it might tell you exactly which ones are the hang-p.

Thanks for great suggestions.

The update from inside the software in effect said, your software is up to date.

The form mode showed all the DC forms listed and I could view them but when I tried to print D-40, it gave the same message "Your District Of Columbia return(s) is currently unavailable to view, print or download because some of the forms haven't been finalized yet" (I do not think I can send a picture here - otherwise, I could send a screen shot). I suppose at this time, I should wait for next update and hope that it will be fixed.

I suppose TT developers do not monitor this forum for issues (to be fixed).

Thanks again for your suggetions.

Yeah, I agree that something appears to be grossly wrong...especially if you cannot print a single form from the Forms Mode page.

___________

IF it's still blocking you on Friday.....after the most recent DC updates this week (if any)....then I suggest two courses of action....easiest to most drastic:

1) Open your tax file....go up to the top of the screen and in the "File" menu item, there is a selection for "Remove State Return".  Go in there and delete the DC tax return.  Then run the Federal tax return error checks, and after that go back into the DC /State interview and re-run all the DC Q&As to re-prep teh DC tax return.   See if that works.

IF it still hangs up

2) you may be relegated to uninstalling the entire TTX set of software, and re-installing it all from scratch.

3a) Before doing that, remove the DC tax return form yoru file (as noted in #1 above) and save the file and shut down TTX entirely before uninstalling.....then re-installing TTX.

3b) IF you installed from a downloaded installation file (not form a CD) then get a new installation file.  The installation files are regularly updated, so you want the newest one possible.

3c) Then re-install...open your saved tax file, (Check for a software update at this point again if it didn't do so when you re-installed) then go to the DC/State section to download and start up the DC software again.

(IF you didn't delete the DC file before uninstalling in step 3a, you'll have to start with a new dummy-file to download the DC software, before opening your prior saved tax return)

That's all I can think of to do.  I haven't seen any other folks in here with DC problems like this, so it's likely something really strange with your installation.

Thanks for your detail recommendations but it will be so much easier if Friday' updates come and fixes this - will report back.

This is Turbo Tax Deluxe, Windows 10, bought it from Amazon and downloaded it and installed it on my hard drive (been doing this in the last several years)

Thanks a million again SteamTrain for all your suggestions - I learned few things for sure.

Today' update corrected my issue with DC forms "not being ready". After the update, I was able to save the taxes as PDF and view all forms (DC included of course).

Thanks (until next question)
