If a person is a W2 nurse employee in a hospital, can she deduct the cost of nursing scrubs and if so, where would that be deducted on her tax return?

As a W-2 employee you cannot claim any employee business expenses on a federal tax return due to the tax code changes in effect for tax years 2018 thru 2025.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA) suspended unreimbursed employee business expenses from being deductible on the Federal return from 2018 to 2025. Some states however still allow this deduction on the state return. The TCJA is scheduled to sunset in 2025 unless it is extended by Congress.
