Do you have a Local Tax amount in Box 17 on your W-2G?   If so, you do need a Locality Name in Box 18.

This is usually for a City/County Tax.

If no Local Tax is assessed, both Box 17 and 18 can be blank.

If TurboTax isn't letting you proceed with your W-2G form even though all required locality fields are blank, you can try the following steps to delete and reenter the information:

Steps to Delete a Form Using the Trash Can Icon in TurboTax

  1. Open TurboTax: Start your TurboTax software and open your tax return.
  2. Navigate to Tax Tools: On the left-hand side, select "Tax Tools" from the drop-down menu.
  3. Select Tools: Under "Other helpful links," choose "Tools."
  4. Delete a Form: Select "Delete a form" and find the W-2G form you want to remove. Click the trash can icon next to the form.
  5. Confirm Deletion: A confirmation screen will pop up. Select "Yes" to confirm the deletion.

Steps to Reenter W-2G Information in TurboTax

Here's where you enter Form W-2G (Certain Gambling Winnings) in TurboTax:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Locate the W-2G section:
    • TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to W-2G.
    • TurboTax Desktop: Search for W2G (don't include any hyphens) and select the Jump to link.
  3. Answer Yes on the Did you win money or other prizes in 2024? screen and follow the instructions to enter your W-2G.
  4. Locality Fields: Ensure you do not type anything in the three locality fields if they are not applicable.
