I'm retired. I left my last company August 2022. I received a W2 form them for 2023 that has an empty box 1 but has data in boxes 3, 4, 5, 6.
Because of the empty box 1, I cannot efile. I'm asked to mail the return instead.
Why did I get this type of W2 form, the year after I left the company?
Thanks
Yes, the IRS will reject a Efiled return containing a W-2 with no amount in Box 1 (Wages).
You could mail it, as you suggested, or leave it out of TurboTax and just save it for your records, so you can Efile.
Are there amounts/notes in any other boxes besides the 3, 4, 5, 6 you mention?
You could contact your employer to see why they sent you this W-2.
Since you're retired, maybe it was issued to show Medical Insurance they paid for you, or some related info.
What about the data in boxes 3, 4, 5, 6?
BTW, are you a Tax Expert? Saying that if Box 1 is empty, don't report that W2 doesn't seem right to me.
Thanks

Only boxes 3-6 have data. All other boxes have nothing.
This is probably a corrected W2 to the one I got for 2022 when I retired.
I'm going to delete it from my taxes.
I didn't make any wages, tips, other comp inn 2023 since I retired in 2022.
This is the only W2 I got for 2023.
