Yes, the TurboTax email to customers to update their stimulus payment direct deposit information is legitimate.

  • Note: You have to update your information by 1/15/2021.

Please follow these steps to update your information in the portal:

  • Go here and sign in with the username and password you used to file your 2019 tax return
  • Validate your identity
  • Enter your updated bank account information

For additional information, see Update your stimulus payment direct deposit information.

Why do you say email but then give the link to update?

Is turbo releasing these funds over the weekend? Or is that a lost cause?

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out.

I know it can seem a little confusing at the moment. The deadline to update your bank account information was on January 16.

If you didn’t get your stimulus payment , you may be eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your taxes this year.  TurboTax will guide you through this, so you get every dollar you deserve.

For more stimulus information, including eligibility, payment timing and distribution details, please visit IRS.gov for the most up to date information: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/economic-impact-payments-on-their-way-visit-irsgov-instead-of-calling

We appreciate your patience.

I updated on the 12th via email. I called and they said it’s been deposited since the 14th. Does this mean I’ll see it tomorrow?

Give it 5 business days.  It may take your bank a day or two to actually post the funds from the clearing account to your account.  Some banks are faster than others with this step.  @Brannondaddy

I updated my information for direct deposit on 1/11 via a email from this forum answering a question I asked about second stimulus. I spoke to 2 different representatives via live chat and one told me I had to recieve the email and the other one said since I recieved the link from a reply from this forum then it counts? On another day a representative sent me a breakdown of all the emails sent during this second stimulus mess and told me to click on the link and make sure my information was updated. I have a case # for that as well as the picture sent to me to follow the link.

If you attempt to use the link for direct deposit update for the second stimulus and did not receive that specific email, your account information will not be updated.

Hi!

If your account was updated for the second stimulus check and  the third check is  once again sent to an old account will the same email go out for the third check?

I'm not sure what email you are referring to.

This information is provided by the IRS - Third Stimulus FAQ

This thread is about the email that was sent with a link for people to update their checking account information for the second stimulus check. I am asking if a similar email will be sent out this time as well. I appreciate the link, it does not address my question.

According to the IRS here, the IRS will use data already in its systems to send the third stimulus payments. Taxpayers with direct deposit information on file will receive the payment that way. Those without current direct deposit information on file will receive the payment as a check or debit card in the mail.
