TurboTax W4 Calculator

Using the Turbo Tax Withholding calculator here: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/calculators/w4/

If you're a teacher who only gets paid 9 months out of the year, do you check "NO" for "Do you expect to hold this job for the entire year" to get an accurate result even though you are still technically employed?

Yes, check the “NO” box when TurboTax asks you whether you expect to hold the job for the whole year.

You’ll also have to adjust your total income. On “What dates do you expect to hold this job this year?” enter 01/01/2023 to 09/30/2023 if you are only getting paid for nine months.

When you reach the summary screen, the amount in the deductions row should be your income minus either the standard or itemized deduction (depending on what you chose).

For example, if you make $10,000 per month and claim the standard single deduction, the line will be $77,050 ($90,000 - $12,950).

Thank you!  Would be great if Intuit would have these explicit instructions for teachers.
