TurboTax Pricing Question

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand TurboTax’s pricing, but I’m a bit confused. I’ve seen ranges like “File Your Own Taxes” listed as $0 - $89, but I’m not sure where to find the exact prices for the various plans.

Does anyone know where I can see a clear breakdown of the current TurboTax pricing? Any help would be appreciated!

Please click on the first link, and you’ll see the first column reads “$0* - $89.” Can you do me a favor and let me know what specifically costs $0 and what costs $89? That’s the information I’m trying to find.

I know.  I’ve been looking for it too.  They’ve changed the links around.

I just don’t understand why being upfront about pricing has to be so difficult.

Couldn’t find a page listing all of them.  But here are the 3 Online versions.

Online Free Edition

Free Tax Filing: File Federal & State Taxes with TurboTax® Free Edition

Online Deluxe

TurboTax® Deluxe Online 2024-2025 | Maximize Tax Deductions

Online Premium

TurboTax® Premium Online 2024-2025 | Self-Employed & Investor Tax Software

How did you find those three links? Also, is there a single page that clearly shows three columns comparing the differences between Premium, Deluxe, and the Free Edition?

I feel like I might need to create a spreadsheet just to clearly see what each one offers!

Like I said I couldn’t find a comparison chart. I got the 3 links from the bottom of this page (or any page).

The Online version you have to use is based on what you need to enter.  So start in Deluxe and if you try to enter something that Deluxe doesn't have you will have to upgrade to Premium.  In the Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now. Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition?

Plus the Online versions are only good for 1 return per account.  State is a separate charge.  You only can see the forms after you pay and download the pdf.  And you might need to upgrade to a higher version to enter different kinds of income.

DESKTOP

The Download Desktop program you buy and install the program on a full Windows or Mac computer (a desktop or laptop), which can do unlimited returns. And you can buy any version like just Deluxe.   All the Desktop programs have all the forms, you just get more help in the higher versions. And the Desktop program has many other features over the Online versions. Like seeing and entering into the actual forms. And it has a What-If worksheet to test in.

In Desktop, You get 5 federal efile for free. In Deluxe and above you get 1 free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns (in that state). Each state return including the first one is $20 early or $25 (March 1) to efile or you can print and mail the state for free.

Agree. Very disappointed with them this year. They are deliberately pushing people to fill the forms and find out pricing later. And aggressively hawking the "live assistance" service. They want us to be confused, put in hours of work, and then present us with the bill when we are tired. This is not customer centric behavior.

I needed to know how much it cost to file schedule C with the online program compared with a lower version not capable of running Sch C so that I knew how much to deduct on next year taxes. I eventually got the answer but YES Turbotax made it extremely difficult to understand the pricing.

Turbotax really needs to be more price transparent.

When I try, it should price "$0-$105". Did Intuit change their price through time?

And not show price upfront is very sneaky. They want you spend all the time putting all your information, then you would be too frustrated to try other vendor.
