Turbotax Deluxe 2025 Forms Availability

I just finished installing Turbotax Deluxe 2025 with no problem.  In the past I have used Turbotax quite effectively to help with estimating end-of-year tax decisions, BUT last year AND this year the forms availability has made it impossible to do this.  For example, this year the 1099-R input (a very basic/common form) is "Available soon".  And that might be well into next year!

I know from talking with friends who use the H&R Block product that last year and this year they had no problem with forms availability.  This year they have ALREADY used the H&R Block product to do exactly what I would like to do with Turbotax (enter actual or estimated financial info to see roughly what I will owe in taxes).  No problem with 1099-R input for them.

Sooo, can you point me to where I can see the estimated date of forms availability for Turbotax Deluxe 2025??

AND, I am seriously considering switching to H&R Block Tax Software next year if forms availability continues to be a problem with Turbotax.

Follow-up:  the data from a 1099-R apparently goes primarily on the 1040 - I'm not seeing any other "form" to check for availability related to 1099-R data entry.

When I attempt to enter the Turbotax section for Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) it simply states "available soon", but allows me to select to "sign up for email alerts".   If I select this prompt Turbotax asks for your email address to notify you when "Form 3903" is available.  I don't know of any dependency on Form 3903 to prevent me from entering 1099-R data???

Form 3903 is for moving expenses.  Don't know why it's showing  up under 1099R entries.   They probably need to update the message.  But you can enter a 1099R using Forms mode.   Or a work around to test and estimate  is to enter the 1099R taxable amount as interest so it will be added into your AGI.  But be sure to delete the interest entry when the 1099R entry area is ready.

I’ve used TurboTax for 20years or so. Extremely frustrating last year, could not even enter data to 1099-R forms (3 retirement Accts and then my RMD) until late Jan or early Feb. Ttax used to at least provide the form with a watermark that said something like Do Not Print. I had to Jerry rig data into other forms. It sucked. Won’t buy TurboTax this year until I can get forms to enter the data…..or maybe I’ll have to switch to H&R.  What gives?

Meanwhile, “AARP.com” has a robust tax estimating program that even properly estimates the Enhanced Bonus up to $6,000 standard deduction for seniors. And it’s updated to properly show your State Taxes deduction, can now be over $10,000.  H&R says to estimate the enhanced bonus using your MAGI, but failed to define that it’s a totally different MAGI (do not add back untaxed SocSec or tax exempt income) than the one used for IRMAA (which does add these back to your AGI.)

@petersolson    I installed 2025 today and doing a test Joint return with both over  65 .  It has the 6,000/12,000 Senior Deduction right and I put in over 10,000 property tax and state estimates and schedule A shows the right 40,000 limit.  So those 2 items are calculating right for me.

Great, good to know, expected it would.  For months I had been using a saved copy version of my 2024 return to estimate my 2025 taxes and required withholding.  That said, I had to use a plug figure to get my over $10k State taxes into itemized deductions (plugged it into other interest).

Does the new TurboTax for 2025 taxes allow you to enter data into 1099_R forms? I could not enter any data there last year for a couple months, despite continually running updates. Had to plug 4 1099-R forms data into other income categories and then had re-enter all this data manually once TurboTax finally provided a usable 1099-R.

Please advise, as I'd like to buy this year’s TurboTax.
Thank You

Yes people are reporting you  can enter 1099R into the Forms mode.   I just opened a 1099R form and entered amounts and it flowed to the 1040.

I agree usually we have it by now, and I start entering data to see what I’m looking at before the end of the year. I understand we have to have updates all the way towards the end of February but at least we could put our basic information in now! this feels ridiculous.

The link takes you to forms (date available), but the 1099 is not one of them listed.

I just did the same task, Opened forms and entered four different 1099-R's Gross amounts, Federal/State tax amounts withheld and the info carried over to the 1040. When my 1099-R's actually are available, I'll import them in, after I delete the manual ones I created. Just have to wait on TURBOTAX (always late) to have the 1099-R software updated.

Used the link you provided.  It has NOTHING about Form 1099-R.  So, again, when will it be available??

You can enter a 1099-R in Forms Mode. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for that section to be ready (and no one here can be certain when that will be).

in that section of the app there may be link to get an e-mail alert when that section is ready.  Forms mode is available for desktop users.

seems a lot of stuff will come in January - expect lots of updates - if you're trying to do year-end estimates either try forms mode as suggested by others, or use a simpler online calculator like this one and come back to TT when it's fully baked.

Can you explain how? I have been used TT for years but usually bought in Jan. This year I bought in Nov. dues to new tax law for No tax for Senior=$6000 thing. And section IRA, Pension is still not available as of today 12/20/25. I had uninstalled mine and redownload and installed but it is still not available. This is frustrated to buy the TT too early is a waist. Unable to estimate as I knew exactly the amount to file. TT software is bad lately. Next year I need to find out from HR block. No longer trust TT.

A couple issues need to be clarified. In order to use/fill out various forms that have not been finalized by the IRS due to tax law changed(for example the 1099-R) you need to go to the menu up top, search for and create or open the form. Then you can fill it out and temporally complete the form. These preliminary forms appear to work properly for estimating your taxes. But it appears that TurboTax may not allow you to use their “walk you through” form process until the IRS has approved their own final IRS version of the form (which may have new questions the IRS wants answered or a slightly altered format.)

There is another thread going that specifically mentions the 1099B form not being available that I have been replying to.

I want my tax software to give me the tools necessary to maximize the tax benefit I get for year-end Traditional IRA to Roth IRA conversions.  We have paid them for this!!!  In my reply to that one, I noted Turbo Tax was delinquent in this area last year too, and I seriously considered not using Turbo Tax this year for that reason, but I did not know if the other tax software available to use would be the same.  THANK YOU for letting us know that H&R Block apparently hires enough programmers to have their software ready when their customers buy it and they don't give their users the bait-n-switch that Turbo Tax does.

BAD BUSINESS practices Turbo Tax.  You have now officially lost my business, and it appears to be another.  I have been using it for about 20 years.  See you next year H&R Block!

Same.  I signed up for email alerts for the 1099B in November.  I got an email a couple of weeks later, letting me know that moving expenses form was ready.  I have not ever even touched the moving expenses section in the software.

I have lost faith in Turbo Tax.  I am going to check into getting my money back for 2025 Turbo Tax.

Afaik, you pay for the software to file taxes.  The IRS doesn't even start accepting taxes until late January.  Can you provide a link to where Intuit says TurboTax is designed to be able to compute your entire tax profile for the year well before the end of the year?  I may have missed it.

Fwiw, I simply create a new return in TT2024, put all the data in, and make a few simple adjustments for standard deduction and brackets.  I've been projecting my year-end Roth conversion to fill my top bracket since distribution estimates were available from fund companies over Thanksgiving weekend.

I've been doing this for years - I don't recall the software ever being functionally complete well before year-end.

Additional point - you're never going to find 1099 on the forms availability list as a 1099 is not something you file with your taxes.  A 1099 will never be "ready to e-file".

The thing the bothers me, and has been going on for years, it listing a date and then just updating the date when the date passes.  Or just changing it to "Ready soon". It seriously erodes credibility when the company consistently and regularly misses date commitments seemingly without a care in the world.
