Turbo tax 2024 activation cannot go beyond login screen (cannot login) with correct credential

Installed Turbotax 2024 desktop app, tried to login to my account.

Even with correct credential, it comes back to the same login screen and it shows my user id and las access time (which is today's date).

If I did use incorrect password, it would tell me right away.

With the same credential, I can login via the browser with no issue.

Since I cannot go beyond this step.. there is no way I can register the key...

Please help.. thanks.

@Hawken1996

Someone yesterday....they indicated that they had to turn off their VPN in or der for the license registration to work.   Then turned it back on later after the registration was completed and software started up.

So if your computer is going thru a VPN, try turning it off first.

I don't have VPN running or VPN at all. Computer has Turbo tax installed for the previous several years.

So it used to work.. just not this year... and I have tried to uninstall and re-installed the 2024 App... didn't help.

Worst case is that I may have to try it on a different PC

Rats.....

If you are running on a Windows 11 computer, You could also try running the installation file in Compatibility Mode for Windows 10 instead.

OR....contact Customer Support and get the problem logged in there....not sure they'd have a solution since it's so new.   But, perhaps they'd get a systems/software expert involved.

I am having the exact same problem.  Have done everyth8ing possible to resolve (turn off VPN, clear cache, delete cookies, warm reboot, cold reboot, etc.).  Was on with TurboTax technical support today, after an hour she said to try deleting download and reload, which I did with no resolution.

Help!

I have exact same problem.  Running Windows 10, 64 bit, have used TT for years.  Despite using correct id, pw, vc cannot activate download to use, keep getting endless login loop screen, wasted an hour already.  All security and vpn turned off, still cannot get to work.  After last years fiasco, I should have known better.  At least Amazon was kind enough to refund the purchase and is escalating issue since I made it clear numerous online complaints about this with TT apparently doing nothing.  Any suggestions for better tax sw since TT obviously is now IMO no longer a viable option due to numerous problems last year and now this year cannot even activate.  Thanks.

I am unable to connect as well. As a web developer, I took a look at what's going on in the background. TurboTax is trying to connect to https://shopping.turbotax.intuit.com/ and this is timing out. When I click on the "Try Again" button, it first connects to https://accounts-tax.intuit.com/ and then attempts the https://shopping.turbotax.intuit.com/ -- it's the second one that fails.

I'm on Starlink - @Hawken1996 , have you had any success? Are you on Starlink?

I also was told via this post:

Solved: Re: I bought a turbotax license code. How do I use it?

to go to this page:

https://accounts-tax.intuit.com/turbotaxdesktop/signup

After clicking "sign in," on the web (because I already have an account), it went through to redirect to this URL:

https://shop.turbotax.intuit.com/commerce/account/secure/account.jsp

And this also times out for me.

There are three canonical DNS records for this URL and none of them respond on port 443: Network Tools: DNS,IP,Email

Sure seems like someone at Intuit forgot to turn on their Amazon S3 services.

Thanks for these very informative posts. A lot of us are having this same problem (yup..downloaded from Amazon). Hopefully this will get resolved. Again, thank you!

I posted previously concerning the failed endless loop activation login using Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Premier version purchased from Amazon.  I am on Starlink internet but doubt that is the problem. I also doubt this is an Amazon only problem as on the web I found many posts reporting same problem when purchased elsewhere including Costco.  IMO (being very paranoid due to previous severe privacy breaches by these types of companies providing sw) this problem is because TT is trying to force people to use online version only where they capture and use/sell all your data (consistent I think with IMO invalid excuse for not providing a CD anymore for installation--yes many new computers don't have built in drives but everyone I know has at least one or even two usually HD capable disc drives connected to their computers).

I did stumble/bumble my way into getting this Premier software to activate for Windows 10 Pro 64 bit after I tried every single other suggestion on TT and the web.  I had from the first try been running as administrator which did nothing.  Neither did turning off firewall, security, vpn (NOT RECOMMENDED by me---if you do this then make sure to first do a create restore point and after run a scan of your system).  Tried many other suggestions also.  I am NOT an IT or cybersecurity expert, so what finally worked for me may or may not work for you and may or may not be a security risk.

Suggest strongly you leave on all your security protections including vpn if you decide in desperation to try what worked for me.  Also strongly suggest you first create a restore point.

I went to Windows c drive folder where tt program was downloaded, clicked on turbotax folder and right clicked for properties.  I saw I was indeed running as administrator with full control as well as me as user having full control so this obviously was not the problem.  Under general tab, I unclicked read only.  Under security tab, I gave each of the 7 multiple options (if not already done) from all application packages ... to trusted installer full control.  Clicked ok, rebooted my computer, and found one of those steps made it work to take activation code and was able to launch TT and update sw.

Hope this works for someone else.  I found help from TT and MS (yes I tried there also) to be practically non existent/completely incompetent.  It is very hard for me to believe these companies like TT and MS with all their computer experts don't seem to have any idea how to solve a basic problem preventing people from even activating their products.

Good luck!

Thank you for this post...sadly for me it did not work. I tried the steps on the TT folder and I tried the steps on the Individual 2024 folder inside the TT folder. I still get no activation, still tells me I have no Internet Connection. Did you do these steps on the TT folder itself or the Individual 2024 inside the TT folder? Just curious.

I am so sorry my solution did not work for you.

My problem may be a little different--I never got any message about not having an internet connection when trying to activate, it just kept sending me back to the login screen each time I tried to activate in an endless loop.  My system showed I always had an internet connection.

Just to clarify my original problem, even when unable to activate TT, I was able to download and the run the file for installation and then see the created exe file...I just could never get it to activate so I could open and run it.  So if you have been able to actually download and install and just not activate TT, perhaps trying to change the properties on the exe file might work rather than the entire folder?  This is just a wild guess.

Otherwise, to me (not an IT person) the no internet connection message might be an indication wrt your firewall/vpn blocking.  It worked for me when my firewall and vpn were on but it might not work for other firewalls or vpn servers with different protocols.  This is just another wild guess.

Sorry.

I am on Starlink and when I was having problems activating I think I saw those links as well.

See my other post for what ended up working for me but unfortunately not for someone else who tried it who was having the same problem.

Good luck.

Unfortunately it appears not just Amazon, complaints from Costco among other sellers customers of the exact same endless log in activation loop.

I had to disable my real-time virus protection in Windows 11 to activate TTax. I enabled again after activation and registration. All seems to work now. What a Joke. Disable virus protection to use financial SW? Really?

I agree it is totally outrageous that you are forced to put your computer and personal financial information security at risk to activate TT.  But again IMO with MS and TT this is likely to be intentional as they apparently want to mine everyone's personal information as much as possible for their financial benefit and sales of information to third parties.  TT is IMO trying to also push customers to online only versions of their sw for similar reasons.

Windows 10 IMO is bad enough, but IMO Windows 11 is so horrible it is beyond belief with all its invasion of privacy, appropriating users information and more.  Unfortunately I have so far spent 50+ hours on my husbands new computer (had no choice but to replace old computer originally running XP and upgraded to Windows 7 Pro which tells you how old it was) trying to install third party sw and block all or at least most of MS invasion of privacy.  Unlike TT and MS, those third party sw vendors have been extremely helpful getting the activation and other issues promptly resolved, even in 2 cases having to send us special links so they can manually activate (because of Windows 11 blocking etc--had nothing to do with our antivirus/antispyware/antiransom ware or vpn, all on Windows 11).  IMO don't upgrade or change to Windows 11 unless you absolutely have to--unfortunately we had no choice with having to get a new computer.

Glad you got TT working at least.

So I tried something different today. I uninstalled TT 2024 and I deleted the TT Folder from the Programs Files folder. I then logged into the Intuit Website. I disabled my Anti Virus and Firewall. I installed TT 2024 and it went right to the Activation page of the install and it activated just fine. I then turned back on my Anti Virus and Firewall. The entire thing took less than 2 minutes. I don't know if what I did was a fix or if Intuit fixed something at their end and it was all just a coincidence because I did not try to activate TT again before I did this. I tried about 5 times yesterday using different methods and they all failed.

There was a known issue on 1-10-2025 that has now been resolved.  If you had trouble yesterday, try again today and see if you are okay.

Congratulations.  Very glad and relieved to hear that you were finally able to activate TT after all the hassle.  The glitches on TT side when trying to activate may have corrupted your TT download, so it was wise IMO to first again uninstall/reinstall before trying to activate again although when I did that several days ago it did not help but I finally found my solution on my own as described elsewhere.

From another's recent post, it looks like TT may have finally done something to fix the problem they knew about way back in late Nov and did nothing to address or inform customers having problems.  Totally IMO incompetent and ridiculous to not only release sw that won't activate but also then IMO horrendous to conceal the problem is on TT side and not letting customers having problems know but instead when contacted sending them into meaningless endless loop of unsuccessful possible "solutions".

I have to wonder since TT ignored this issue when reported weeks ago by customers if Amazon recently contacted TT about this issue.  (Of course it is not just Amazon TT purchases, web search shows same problem experienced by other authorized sellers customers including those purchasing from Costco.)  The Amazon customer service agent was quite concerned and after refunding my purchase immediately escalated a couple of levels up and the high level supervisor assured me Amazon would be contacting TT about the issue as they could see it affected a number of customers (and purchasers of TT from other vendors).

Hopefully this resolves the TT problems for the season but unfortunately based on last year's fiasco and one a few years ago, I suspect there to be major problems with at least one commonly used form...

Thanks for letting people know about the possible fix.  Hopefully it resolves the issue TT has known about for weeks (not just one day) from customer reports and apparently has only recently gotten around to doing something about it.  IMO releasing sw that cannot even be activated and waiting for weeks to do anything about it treats customers very badly.

If activation still does not work for some having problems, you might first consider uninstalling and reinstalling before trying to activate again since the previous glitches on the TT side when trying to activate may have corrupted the TT files.

Hope this resolves the activation problems for everyone!  So we can then progress to the actual not so fun task of doing our taxes...LOL.

I have been trying to install and use TT24 for about 4 hours now (after several hours on previous days).  I have followed all of the advice including disabling firewalls and have uninstalled/reinstalled several times.  I still cannot get past the page after "Ready to start your taxes" as is continues to return to the page asking for my password.  I've used TT for years without this kind of problem.

Thanks but unfortunately TT has known about this issue since MID NOVEMBER when first reported and has so far done NOTHING to resolve.  Tax season is open and people cannot even activate their sw---not just if purchased from Amazon apparently but also I found exactly the same problems posted on web when people purchased elsewhere such as Costco.

For those of you who are concerned about privacy, in case you missed the notices of TT being hacked and having a major data breach (actually it appears more than once over the past few years) just for example see https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/privacy/data-breach/intuit-class-action-claims-co-failed-to-prevent-turbotax-credit-karma-data-breach/.  There quite a few notices on the web concerning these TT data breaches and TT delays in notifying customers.  One very good reason IMO why if you are concerned about privacy and security of your personal information NOT to use TT online version and NOT to save to TT online despite TT doing IMO everything possible to force people to use TT online version.  Everyone is different wrt how they view such matters, but this is one reason why I will only use a desktop version (which unfortunately TT appears to be making extremely difficult) and only save to my own computer--with appropriate back up of course to my own storage devices.

And just a heads up...last year for a very popular and commonly used form I needed, TT first said form was not available from IRS yet which when I checked with the IRS found to be untrue, and then when confronted TT said they were working on it and estimated it would be resolved in a week...then kept putting people off week by week for over 2 months.  These are only two examples I have personally experienced over the past few years with TT and there were other significant problems with inaccurate forms etc.  Used to be great sw but now?!

If this sort of nonsense keeps up, guess it will be back to the old fashioned pencil and paper way of doing returns for me even though I have complex returns since the reviews of competitor sw also show multiple problems and dissatisfaction.

I am glad I finally found a fix posted elsewhere for my situation but sorry for those of you who are still having problems.  With these difficulties every time I am opening TT now I almost cringe wondering if it is going to stop working.
