TurboTax is reporting an error, "Form 1099-MISC Worksheet (Redacted): A Link to Schedule C should not be linked when the MWP qualifying as difficulty of care payments exclusion box has been checked"
I have not reported any "difficulty of care payments" nor can I find the reported "exclusion box" to uncheck.
How do I correct this error?
If you did not have any Medicare Waiver payments, you might have accidentally made the selection during the 1099-Misc entry. To correct this, follow these steps:
I'm experiencing the exact same condition as @mattw00. I followed your instructions and verified I do NOT have the MWP radio button selected. I have "None of these apply" selected. However, I am also/still getting the same response from the Smart Check tool. Can I safely ignore this warning? Or is this a bug that needs to be investigated and fixed before continuing my return?
Hi, I have this same problem. It popped up after TurboTax applied updates when I opened it today (2/23/2022). I verified that I did not select "This income is a Medicare waiver payment that qualifies as a difficulty of care payment" and DID select "None of these apply" per your screenshot. Is there some other potential source of the problem? Is this a bug?
Looks like this is also affecting the Pro Series users as of this morning. Looks like a bug to me: https://proconnect.intuit.com/community/proseries-tax-discussions/discussion/error-message-for-form-1099-misc-with-other-income-linked-to/01/247919/highlight/false#M133073
Seeing the same issue with the update on 2/23/2023. Ran the check 2/22/2023 and this error was not occurring.
Same problem here. After updating the program this morning (Feb 23, 2023), I received an error message involving MISC-1099 that says "Schedule C should not be linked when the MWP qualifying as difficulty of care payments exclusion box has been checked". This error didn't exist yesterday. It looks like there's a bug in the program update released today. Please advise on how to resolve this issue.
If you have the MWP error showing on Turbotax Desktop. In this current version as of todays date, there is no option to uncheck in step by step.
To fix:
Go to Forms
Find the 1099misc worksheet
Scroll all the way to the bottom and uncheck the box under Medical Waiver Payments.
The error should go away after that.
Same problem here. I was passing all the checks two days ago, now I am getting this error. I tried checking MWP on the form, exiting it and then coming back an unchecking it but it did not help.
That section isn't on the worksheet as I see it. It jumps right from Boxes 16-18 to Additional Payer...
I'm using Turbotax Desktop and Forms view displays neither the Medicaid Waiver section nor the button.
Same thing here, it's not on my "1099-misc worksheet" to uncheck. Didn't have issue yesterday. I have to file by Wednesday, which I can do so by mail, but it won't let me e-file.
Also having this issue. Had already entered a 1099-MISC with Other Income in Box 3 linked to my Schedule F a couple days ago with no problems. Now after today's update (2/23/2023) it displays an error that I can't link this 1099-MISC to my Schedule F since the MWP qualifying as difficulty of care payments exclusion box has been checked. I never checked this box, and the checkbox on the worksheet does not display below the Boxes 16-18 section as shown in an earlier post so I'm unable to uncheck it.
I'm not getting this error for other 1099-MISC forms I have, though.
I can confirm the same issue and same form view as others have already shown after todays (2/23/2023) update as linked to 1099-MISC Business Income with no way to correct as outlined by TurboTax responses. When will this obvious bug be fixed!
In no way is this issue "Solved".
Medical Waiver Payments box is not present after 2/23 update. Hard to "Get Your Taxes Done" when basic form bugs like this are in place. I did test just removing the errant 1099MISC form and entering as 1099NEC, but we as users should not have to do these tricks. Please fix this bug!
Workaround: I removed the problematic 1099-MISC and enter the value directly on Schedule C. That solved my particular situation.
Having same issue.
How do you input directly in schedule c? The space for 1c is white, so I can't input any data.
I thought this was a promising suggestion, but there is no Medicaid Waiver Payments checkbox visible on my 1099-MISC worksheet (Turbotax Premier, windows desktop version).
I may have figured out how to work around this. In forms mode, go to box 3 for the 1099-MISC and check the "Medicaid waiver payments excludible from gross income" check box. This will change the error to "Other income checkboxes should not be checked when Box 3 other income boxes have been checked or one of the schedules have been linked." Then uncheck the box and the error will disappear. The form is still showing with a red exclamation mark in my forms list, but when you go to the form there is no error. Not sure if it will let me e-file or not (I'm a long way off from that), but it's progress at least.
Given personal past and current filings and how these forms work, one cannot directly update schedule c. For example, given business income 1099misc; linkages are in place to schedule c. As 1099misc form has this bug I (and others) will continue to get "A Link to Schedule C should not be linked" error.
I appreciate suggestions for workarounds, however, Turbotax desktop still generates the same error described in the original post. There appears to be a bug in the latest update. Please let us know when it will be fixed.
I also have this issue,
The MWP box is not on the form and i have none selected.
This is the desktop version and it was updated yesterday 2-23-23.
Does anyone have a idea how to fix this or when a update to fix this error will be available?
Thanks for your assistance
We are working on this issue and will update this thread soon! @mkaprelian
As a workaround, until we can get the error removed, try
The results will be the same on Schedule C. And the 1099-NEC will link to Schedule C without an error.
