State Edit button

Why doesn't my State return edit button work!  I can't edit my return.  Desktop Version.  Did not hit the Done button yet.

Did you file your federal return?   If you did, you have to wait until it is accepted to file your State return.

We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?

Sounds like your computer may be experiencing a loop.  Let's clear your cookies, history and cache' then reboot.

Cookies are small files that temporarily store data on your computer. We use them to personalize your experience so you see information you already entered and not items that are irrelevant or repetitive.

On rare occasions, they may make your browser think you already did something that you still need to do. To fix that, you'll need to delete (clear) the cookies from your browser.

Each browser has a slightly different method for deleting cookies. Choose the browser you're using:

Thanks for the suggestion but I am not using the online version of turbotax.    I don't even have a browser open when I encounter the problem.  I have it installed on my computer from the hard disk version.  I am thinking about re-installing the product to see if that helps, if not I'll have to restart my return form the beginning.

Please clarify your question.

Unfortunately, we can't see your screen to see where you are, so I'll have to ask you a couple of questions.

  • What state are you working on?
  • If you go to PERSONAL and then back to STATE TAXES, what screen do you get?
  • When you go back into your state do you get the screen:
    • Let's work on your state return? or
    • Does it ask you to add a state?
  • Is the EDIT button in the beginning or is it deeper in the state return?

Please contact us again and provide some additional details. @ccjjj23

Hi JohnB5677,  Thanks for responding to my state edit button problem.  However the problem no longer exists .

I went  back and re-entered all my federal information and when I got to the State taxes the edit button suddenly worked.    I guess I'll never know what the problem was but if it ever happens again I'll try to investigate further.

Thanks again for responding and trying to help
