Software Error in Program with Form 7205

Using the desktop version of TurboTax business - did not take a building energy credit deduction; asking for a form 7205; no such form is listed.  The recommendation to delete the form does not help since the form is not listed anyway.   I cannot proceed with electronic filing.

I am having the exact same problem. This is clearly a defective issue with the program's algorithm as there is no way to change this setting.  Even if you go through the deductions line by line, it does not even show up as an option to enter, yet it shows up on the final form?

So I have downloaded the form 7205 from the IRS and simply added the comment (My Company does not own a commercial building, this is a defect in the Turbo Tax Program) so I can attach and file by March 15th which is when S Corp tax returns are due.

In TurboTax Business, the Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction appears under Common Business Expenses, found on the Deductions summary page. Be sure the box is empty (no zero).

Or open Form 1120-S using Forms Mode and delete the zero from Line 19.

Thank you very much.  The suggestion to fix by opening the "Forms" page and deleting the Zero worked.

Thanks again 🙂

I'm using TurboTax for Business and trying to file a return for a LLC.  The suggested solutions still haven't worked for me. I'm late filing because of this and will report this to the IRS.  Fir the $190 I spent on this product, I expect better.

Anyone have another solution?

If you are preparing a partnership return (Form 1065), open Form 1065 p1-4 using Forms Mode and delete the zero on Line 20. If Form 7205 remains in the forms list on the left, open it and click Delete at the bottom of the form.

Yes, I feel your pain. I went round and round with this BS too. They have to find a better way for next year.

The best solution IMHO, is to go to the Schedule C WORKSHEET, not the Schedule C form, The WORKSHEET and at the very bottom is the line to remove the zero. Remove the Zero, save the Return and you should be able to e File. Hope this helps with the Form 7205 BS.

THis got me in the right direction I would add the following...

You can't remove the zero from Schedule C directly, you have to do it on the WORKSHEET. This glitch cost me my day off. I spent over $100 for the software and expect better or a refund from Intuit.

This is so stupid. TT enters a 0 by itself, then can't file the form because there is a 0 on that line. You have got to be kidding me. I have been trying to fix this issue for over a week. Finally found the answer here, at the 11th hour.

I removed every deduction I could find related to my side business and I was still getting this error. Makes me never want to use TurboTax ever again.

Do the correction on the Schedule C WORKSHEET not the Schedule C Form. Then it will let you e-file.

Thank you so much for the help. It truly did help and made it so that I didn't have to print out my form and snail mail them in. Thanks again.

The  energy efficient commercial building error is still an issue in the 2024 version of the home and business edition.  The solution provided for 2023 to delete the zero from the Schedule C worksheet still is needed to correct the error in this version.

Intuit and Turbo Tax need to fix the bug!  This should not require customer searching for a solution.

Thank you!!

Found the fix to remove the 0 in the box for Form 7205 in Home and Business Desktop. Form 7205 is under "Any Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings?" within Vehicle Summary. Ensure you DO NOT choose Standard Deduction but Do it myself within Business and Income.
