Should we file married joint or separate?

Here is our 2022 situation

- Spouse: 

1 month employed in USA. 11 months employed in Germany. 

Residence is in Germany for last 11 months.

- me: 

full year employed and residence in USA

- Both:

Owning jointly a house in USA  - not rented

Owning jointly a house in Germany- rented

 

Question:  Should we file married joint or separate?

Factors influencing that decision include your incomes and any credits you are eligible to claim. Generally it is almost always better to file jointly. You could try it both ways to see what is better for you.
